I’m excited to see that West Hollywood is planning to conduct a historic resources survey of commercial properties.
My hope is that commercial properties, especially those worthy of historic/cultural resource designation, are maintained by the property owners. Too many times we see these properties neglected and then considered "not worth saving" if the property is redeveloped.
My Solution:
I would like to see code compliance be more proactive in dealing with neglected properties, both commercial and residential -- historic or not.
As a city, we need to follow our Climate Action Plan and make more of an effort to "encourage the preservation and reuse of existing buildings." The City should be held to a higher standard in terms of preservation of city-owned properties.
